The World Rugby Council is poised to decide on three important law changes for global implementation in May. In an effort to improve game flow, the sport's governing body has introduced these amendments. One notable amendment is the closure of a loophole in Law 10, known as the 'Dupont Law,' which allows offside players to be put back onside when certain conditions are met. This loophole was exploited by France scrum-half Antoine Dupont during the 2024 Six Nations, prompting a change in the law.
Additionally, teams may soon have the option to opt for a scrum to be awarded a free kick, eliminating the ability to request another scrum in certain situations. This change aims to reduce delays during matches. Finally, the Council will vote on whether to ban the 'croc roll' maneuver at the breakdown, which involves using body weight to move opponents standing over the ball, similar to how a crocodile subdues its prey. If approved, these amendments could have a significant impact on the game globally.
