Scott Robertson, head coach of the All Blacks, recently traveled to Japan on a scouting mission to observe potential players ahead of the July series. One of the matches he watched was between Brave Lupus Tokyo, with Shannon Frizell and Richie Mo'unga, against Sagamihara Dynaboars, which ended in a 41-19 victory for Brave Lupus Tokyo. He also witnessed Ardie Savea’s Kobe Steelers fall to Saitama Wild Knights. Savea, Sam Cane, and Beauden Barrett are expected to return to New Zealand for the mid-year Tests, while Mo'unga is currently ineligible due to his new contract in Asia.
Robertson expressed satisfaction with the physical condition of the players and noted the positive influence of New Zealand expertise in Japan rugby. Despite the uncertainty surrounding some players' eligibility, Robertson remains optimistic and emphasizes the need for readiness in facing the challenges of Japanese rugby.
